I’ve been a "maker" my entire life - I’ve always loved taking paint to wood, glue to metal, hammers and tools to anything that will take them. For much of my adult life, however, I didn’t feel comfortable referring to myself as an artist, since I didn’t make a living by creating art.
In recent years, I’ve re-embraced this side of me, and allowed myself to reclaim the label of “artist.” Approaching my art practices with a sense of playfulness and “why not” has been incredibly valuable to me. I embrace my tendency to hop from medium to medium, and allow my impulses to drive the work I make, honoring the way I approached artmaking before I began to picture it in a capitalist framework.
